Features of the Brain Simulation Software
- The user can assemble and edit prototype brain circuits that use action potential signals from four fundamental neuron types in a 3-dimensional space and then simulate the network in real time.
- These neuron types derive from Soft State Automata theory and include the classic summation-inhibition neuron as well as an AND neuron and an INCLUSIVE OR neuron. A spontaneously active neuron is also included.
- One can fly a camera through the 3-D space to examine the network.
- Each neuron can have up to 12 dendrites with each dendrite having 10 possible connection positions (synapses) for receiving inputs from other neurons.
- The analog (ionic charge) signal conductance in each dendrite is defined by the user and may be made adaptive. This parameter affects time delays.
- When combined with dendrite conductance the position of an input affects the shape of the analog signal when it reaches the threshold generator.
- The synaptic efficiency is user definable and may be made adaptive.
- The threshold value and its back signal parameters (refractory time) are also user definable and may be made adaptive.
- The adaptability rules allow the user to define 6 parameters that includes forgetting and resistance to forgetting. The user also selects the neuron to provide the adaptive change signals and this neuron may be the same as the adaptive neuron itself allowing for habituation and facilitation effects.
- The threshold value of each neuron can be randomized to give a stochastic action potential signal response.
- The action potential responses of up to 4 neurons can be tracked and compared using their own floating display window.
- A new brain circuit can be grown modularly by repeatably adding previously saved sub-circuits.
- Up to 12 analog square wave type test signals can be generated by analog signal generators.
- These shape and length of the square pulses are defined by the user and the whole pulse train may be repeated.
- These analog test signals can be formed into a gray scale image.
- These analog test signals may be randomized.
- Multiple monitors are supported by using fully floatible windows.
- Brain circuit files are saved in the open XML standard.
- To record a simulation experiment screen shots may be taken of most open windows at any time by pressing the F1 key. These screenshots are saved in a folder called "BrainSim Screenshots".
- Program help is available via numerous tool tips.
